Adjusting the Lens Through Which You See the World
Thoughts & Emotions
I know the holidays can be tough for many people, and I feel for you… Holiday parties, festive music and family gatherings can just bring up feelings of sadness, loss and regret. The holiday “blues” set in and it’s tough to shake it (however, the blues can be much different from clinical depression, which often requires professional help and modern medicine)… I have some encouragement for you that has helped me in the past: Today you will have somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000 unique thoughts invade your headspace. That "voice in the head" will rattle off countless assumptions, expectations, beliefs and perceptions with or without your awareness. Many of those feelings that set into moods come directly from these unchallenged THOUGHTS. Just because you've thought it thousands of times, does not necessarily make it TRUE. If we don’t get involved in the conversation and challenge/correct these automatic negative thoughts, then our brain just does what it is SO well-designed to do: send electrical signals/messages and respond by producing powerful chemicals, which affect EMOTION-- and shift into Fight or Flight Reponse (that's why so many people are stressed out!). What we focus on expands, and thoughts become things. Today, focus on what you desire, what you hope for, and what is true. EVERY time a mind-virus invades your precious headspace, just take it captive, quarantine, and DELETE. Replace it immediately with what you KNOW to be true. Your emotions most times will follow your thoughts— and it’s not as difficult as it seems— like anything, it just takes practice and discipline… I wish you a very HAPPY Holiday, filled with thoughts that are lovely, true, admirable and trustworthy!
